Again... if you're right 20% of the time, or only when the "predictive model" goes to the HOLY CRAP level, you're not actually doing that good. Meterology is like Sex Panther... 60% of the time, it works every time.

Sex panther is statistically useful, assuming even natural odds.

Well duh... but if you have those questions for me, that's the issue.

I have tons of questions about my field and my areas of interest, but do you see me asking Porch those questions? No. I would only ask someone who had a chance of giving me a decent answer.

Chrome is almost as ugly as your attitude.

If you put the word work in quotes, you're making a judgement. But it's cool. I care very little for what assistant bird counters think, as I am similarly judgemental.

Your jobs are all unimportant! Mine, however, is so super important. I know a secret about something huge and can't tell anyone but I want to!

If you can give warning for when shit hits the fan, you can make the area a LOT safer. If you put people on warning and there ends up to be no need, there is typically no harm done. If you fuck up on predicting a fucking whopper record breaking storm on the other hand, a lot of people may head out unknowingly into what could be very dangerous situations. As the saying goes, better safe than sorry. So is it safe to assume you reject checking weather then? I mean, if it's so goddamn useless, why bother checking, right?

This is the stuff. As joy points out, weather modeling isn't perfect, but it's accurate enough to be useful. As lox pointed out, 40%=it might rain or it might not, but that's still more info than one can get from staring at the sky in the morning, so despite the problems, the forecast has still served a purpose.

Who doesn't look at the weather forecast when deciding which day to take off to go bouldering?
Besides Criz of course, as you don't need a forecast for the gym.

STFU has the right idea... you never don't go because of the forecast. Too often, those d-bags are wrong and you get great climbing. Personally, I find the forecast to be worthless. I don't check it. I check streaming atmospheric data and the radars and make my own "forecasts." If the shit's gonna hit the fan, my crappy small town news cycle will have 15 articles about that so I can know it by skimming headlines.

I suppose this thread is the worthiest use of weather forecasting... gettin' people all worked up by pointing out that it is a scam.
