Amateur hour. It's all about the maul and wedge.

Axes are for cutting down trees, not splitting cord after cord.

And for Christmas I would like a new pair of lippery nanners.

i've split logs for many years in cold PA winters. for making kindling from a chopped cord delivered to your house in suburbia, you dont use a maul and wedge, thats for the big stuff. you use an ax. anything wider than say...a foot. ok. maul and wedge. i love splitting wood.

I split a bunch of wood this weekend. Using this. Do you have a specific ax/maul in mind?

edit: had I read more than your first post I would've realized you answered that question.

i like wood handles, cept for when you miss. and we all miss. and when we do, it sucks. holding your already cold hands as the sting sets into your bones. i think gerber makes a nice one too.

Oh I guess I was just so swole I used a maul for everything. An axe just feels too light in my hands. Unless it's swingin' sideways.

You have identified a swoule paradox!

Is one swoule for using a heavier tool to get the job done or so swoule for using a lighter ax to crush through the logs?

It takes more strenmf to heft a heavier object over your head repetitively.

Real men use a 15# rock splitting maul.

Fiberglass handles aggravate my carpel tunnels way more than wood handles. But I don't miss. So there's that.
