Can't we just have one combined "I paid too much for a camera I can never really use" thread?

Of course I can't pay too much for a camera, I would never buy a d700!

If we're wishing, I'll take a 1Ds Mark III.

edit: I lie. The 5D Mark II actually seems better on almost all measures.

Yea, I'm glad these manufacturers added video recording. The ability to shoot through different lenses without buying a crazy sick HD video camera is win. Although I'm waiting to replace my body (rocking the canon xti!) until they work out some of the suck in the interface. And also increase the FPS on 1080 recording. Next generation should be good, I think.

video on these things still sucks. if you wanna shoot good high-def, get a real video camera. if you wanna take pictures, get a full-frame digital slr. if you wanna take blurry pix of bouldering on choss, get whatever criz has.

If you want to be confounded by menu settings, get a d40.

i've got the canon sx1, it shooots HD video quite well but the lens isn't interchangable.

I took video of a cruise through the dark side and it did a pretty good job adjusting for the change in light levels, I did notice that autofocus was a lil slow when doing extreme zooming in/out .. maybe I'll post it, it's only 500 mb

Srsly???? You really think it sucks? I think it's really good especially for v.1. I'm scared of the Red camera though.... 65mb still files from video..... WTF?

uh, no. the 5d mk2 is kind of revolutionizing the whole industry right now. HD video through high end glass is sick. nikon will catch up.
i have a video camera. its awesome. but if i had the money, i would probably get the 5d mk2. i had to get an adaptor so its big and heavy, the test footage looks awesome so hopefully i will come back with something worth editing.

heres the cam with merock's 70-200. heyooo.

i think it has potential, but i wouldn't buy any of the nikons w/ vid ... just not there enough yet, imo (focusing, sound, etc. -- ever notice how all the vid with those things seems to be shot from a tripod?). image quality is amazing, but to make serious videos with any kind of length, no so much. i think the whole video thing is going to be changing dramatically in the next couple of years (a la the red camera, which has still bigger than the ones from the full-frame d700), but considering i don't have the processor power to edit hires video, and i don't really shoot much video anyway, i figured getting a dslr with video would be pointless. (did consider the d300s, but the low-light performance on the d700 is way betta, which is important for me -- fuck toting around a bag full of lights, cords, and batteries just to shoot something inside.)

maybe the cannons are superior -- can't speak to that subject.

regardless of all y'all knowitall haters on b.com, d700 is still blowing my mind.
