i don't really watch climbing videos,

but, when i do, i know

i've seen a few by the "how's it feel?!" guy for sure.

funny.

as for the bike,

i think i made a good choice for what i wanted out of the change.

especially now that i was looking at my photo and it occurred to me that

my drive train would look even more

ridiculous if i had put Montmartre bars on it.

still want to climb some hills even if i do live down town -

it is down town SLC after all!

brake levers are awesome.

I know you anti-fixed gear chumps are gonna call me a hipster and all that, but this ride seems fuckin' sick! Some cats have bought the frame set and built the shiz up under 13lbs. Cool thing is, the scandium makes the frame feel more like steel. I'll probably go stock at 15lbs and keep it under a grand.

Brooks is the standard, but the springs are black enameled.

VO's springs are chromed, but who knows if the saddles are quality?

i wanna go chrome.

Haven't ridden this. Tend to hate aluminum no matter what they call it. Lighter does not = faster. Some people love it though. What are you riding now? Geometry and fork make it beg for gears. Are you looking for a road bike with track ends? Under $1000 complete, or just frame and fork. And why stainless? Scandium alloy is not stainless and will rust... Price is nice. Wabi is american?

Brooks comes in any style you want. Just keep looking if you haven't found it. VO saddle is much heavier. I got one on sale for 60 bucks. It's on my beater. Crappy quality compared to the brooks but perfect for the bike it's on.

Tronic, yeah i'm looking for a simple, light ss bike with road bike geometry as i'm never gonna hit the velodrome. The bb height is right and the whole concept behind going ss or fixed for me is to keep things light and maintenance free. I was thinking about going the carbon framed roadbike route, but they're ridiculously expensive, and I'm not into running around town wearing lycra and jerseys with logos and shit.

A used mtn. bike is another thought as I do live in the middle of the rockies in Avon, but they're so damn slow and require all sorta upkeep. I'll be riding all pavement unless I decide to camp out for summer. I do remember digging my '99 stumpjumper rolling slicks in town though...

Dude, I met a chick who was on the train with a Specialized Langster... the thing was so light, my underwear shrank. The wabi is 3 lbs lighter.

So... it's probably between the Wabi and the Langster.

I used to ride a 30 lb scattante americano that I bought for $100. It was cromoly and slow as hell. It got me in shape riding it everyday in SF though. That thing rusted as well. It was indestructible though.

Looking for the opposite and don't really want to go the $200 ebay ss Vilano route, though the price is tempting.

Word to the porch.

I've got a tubeless compatible setup and started running tubes a while ago. It's more convenient, the weight issue is non-existent, and you'll end up carrying tubes anyway for when you inevitably get a flat. If you're running super low pressures it's the way to go, but you're not, so it's stupid.

Yeh, I have been told I need to go tubeless because of the thorn factor here. And, every time I ride trails, I get a flat. I exhausted my tube supply and need to try Slime tubes before I accept tubeless as my new reality.

Shizzy. WB actually had some good beta on not flatting when riding the cacti way back when on this thread, might be worth digging up. Somebody has to be making tires specifically for that type of riding.

I'm not certain if this translates to mtb tires as well, but my kevlar road tires are fantastic. I've had one flat in the ~3 years of riding them. And that was some freak accident where a pop can got kicked up, caught between my frame and tire, and sliced it all to hell. Prior to the kevlars, I was replacing flats far too often.
