Knees are poorly designed

Knees are poorly designed

Postby thulsadoom » Fri Nov 11, 2011 12:30 am

I tore my MCL and ACL and fractured the top of my tibia and bruised my patella. I'm just gonna cut my leg off below the knee and hire someone to fashion me a steam powered prosthetic.

i don;t know,

i used a knee to get over a roof bulge today.

just couldn't quite get the foot up that high

and jumping off seemed like a bad idea.

seemed perfectly designed for that.

Yea, knees are not designed for falling out of the sky and hitting the ground at high speed. I did my ACL, MCL, meniscus and broke off some bone 3 years ago. I'm just now getting back into climbing and skiing with minimal pain.

Do your fucking PT!!

I did it for a few months and stopped PT due to shit in life. Glad to have had it done by one of the orthopedic surgeons ever. Blew my savings, but the new ligaments are stronger than before. This was the most difficult injury i've endured in my life. Stay positive.

You'll never feel more alive bouldering then when way off the deck at your limit, pal. Highballing is the spice of death, er, I mean life. Man up, pal.

Porchie you're such a pussy. Kaya is only 25 feet or so, and the hard moves have your feet 12 feet off the deck. But you won't get on it. It's not bad at all... like jumping out a two story window. Man the fuck up you little weenus.

NOTHING is worth dying for.
But MANY things are worth the risk of death.

Everyone knows that highball bouldering is the most satisfying. It is invigorating and satisfying because you have to push the fear of failure out of your mind and commit to sending, or you will inevitably fall (or you don't, because often highballs are well within our limits, duh.)
Sounds like Porchie just knows he won't send or can't flip the mental switch to fully committed mode. I mean I get it, broken bones suck, but that's why you commit and don't fall. I've probably done more highballs since my accident then you've done in your life Porch, sack up, or don't, you're the one missing out on that sweet sending satisfaction.

By extension, soloing 5.easy is basically the most fun thing ever.

I hear someone dropped porchie on a toprope belay and he's been terrified ever since...

Your first statement above is definitely true. Not one to advocate for anyone soloing, so I'll just say I understand the appeal of extreme highballing. heh.

Just gotta get back on the horse.

It's ethically and morally defensible to talk about how highball boulder problems are something people should do.
The same is not true for soloing.

We just whisper to each other about it instead.

except most people who solo (as noted above) don't talk about it (and don't do it in front of other people) so it's hard to see this as seeking attention, yeah?

fwiw... hate gets really fucking boring and old after a bit.

Hey, you're not getting out of this one alive. You can die all old, and dragging your frail, disease ridden, soon-to-be-corpse all over a nursing home, or you can die all proud, and with style. By failing miserably on a highball or solo.

Wolfgang Gullick died on a motorcycle BTW .. jus' sayin'
