what's the extent of the ligament damage? I would talk to a PT, but not just any PT, a sports therapist specifically. My PT also happened to be a double digit boulderer, so he understood the results I needed wanted to achieve (regaining maximum mobility in my ankle and elbow, for instance) where my doctors simply told me "you may never climb the same again." fuck that noise. ask a doc who gets it and you may hear more encouraging news. even if not, what's 3 months in the grand scheme of things? a little adversity never killed anyone.

I got the impression I won't really ever know the extent of ligament damage but that it wasn't bad. I also got the impression my body will adapt itself to my movements although range of motion may never be 100% (I could overextend before). There was an avulsion fracture, meaning my bone broke because my elbow ligaments held onto it, so everything should supposedly be in place...

Eh, should I have gone somewhere where they did some more freakin' imaging?

30 days later...still got a couple weeks before I can try to fully extend my elbow. Also my daddy arm can kick like a horse and my baby arm is experiencing major shrinkage.

Looks like someone fucked up "pin the ulna on the elbow" in this pre-Propofol X-ray.

INJURY QUESTION:

So 1 week ago I slipped on some rocks at a crazy beach and fell straight down on my tailbone. It hurt a bit, but I massaged my lower back and had no intense pain so I thought I must have just bruised my tailbone. I walked a lot that day, swam some, ate some ibuprophens and slept ok. The next two days were spent traveling, mostly sitting with some walking with a backpack on.

Yesterday I went climbing for the first time since it happened. This morning I wake up, very stiff, with pain in my lower back and possibly related pain down my left leg to my left foot. Also, one of my vertebrae is very sensitive/painful to the touch.

Anyone have anything similar happen to them? a.k.a how fuct am I? Is it possible to fracture a vertebra and walk around with a heavy pack on not knowing it?

I gotta be in the office this week, but if I am seriously screwed I could probably take some time one afternoon to get x-rayed if this is a serious thing.

Any replies appreciated, even replies from niceporch chiding me for being weak.

saco-illiac joint maybe. This is where the plate of the tailbone is joined to the hipbones. It's a joint with very little movement generally, so with most activity it is neutral. Climbing would but more that average demands on it, especially lateral bending, hence the day-after pain. The pain down the leg is a sign to me because many nerves pass through the hips at this point. Is it on one side more? Does it pop or crack when you bend? Is it worse when you turn-out the leg (like in a high-step)? So it's like tendon damage basicly. You could get better with rest, ice &c. maybe massage, but it is a hard place to massage. Sitting will make it hurt worse, so, you soon see....

Left side more, no pain with turn out. No pain walking. It still is sore and hurts today. Hurts less walking though...

The weird thing is... I fell like last Monday. I have been walking and doing stuff ever since with little or no pain. Even sat on boats and trains and planes for hours and hours. I climbed for like 10 minutes yesterday and than did a short walk and now I hurt like a mofo.

p.s. no cracking or popping.

Will an x-ray show what's wrong? Is a chiro better?

No pain walking.

Know What? I think you're fine. You are old, &c, Suck it up. Or else you cracked a vertabra maybe.

My whole body hurts everyday from the time I wake up until I go to bed. When I lay down to rest I swear I feel like I've had 4 Vicodins. I lay there while I'm falling asleep feeling high out of my mind. What is pain anyway? Information. Information you can choose to ignore, like anything else. Uh.. sorry, I forgot this isn't about me.

Yeah... that was my theory when I just had moderate soreness. After climbing/walking/situps in one day the pain went from like 2 to like 7. And I'm still not recovered.

One last question, since you seem to know... something... will an X-ray be helpful?!? I mean, it can't hurt but will it really diagnose anything other than a broken vertebrae?

Fuck it. I should just get the x-ray and cross 'cracked vertebrae' off my list of possible injuries. I'm from Texas, spawned by a people who may break their back and never realize it due to inherent swoleness.
