if I don't get in this time, I will quit bouldering and devote my life to the destruction of box turtles.

uhh....45k? Plus an apartment worth 19k is....your typical starting salary for a decent CS major out of college. No fucking way are you getting someone for that, especially in a shithole like LA. Double the salary for someone decent. Triple it for someone who will deliver something awesome.
