Any of you Programmer Fools want a job?

Any of you Programmer Fools want a job?

Postby Ikefromla » Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:54 pm

So the developer at my office got another job and quit on us about a month ago. My boss needs an expert in mySQL, PHP, and HTML to finish our backend/database for our new site. The front end is already 99% done and the back end is close to finished too. The secure database needs to allow us to manage accounts for at least half a million customers, managing purchases and sales (we do both ... think of an online trading company like E*Trade), and if there are any issues you'd need to be on call to fix them immediately.
If you think you're capable, let me know. My boss is offering 45k starting salary PLUS a FULLY PAID apartment in the Pacific Palisades/Malibu by the beach. That or you can work remotely and shoot us a quote with your rates and your resume ... but you'd have to be on call constantly to fix any issues.
I know those conditions might be too restricting to some climber types, but I thought of you punks first. Plus you'd be able to come bouldering at Black Mt (and Bishop) on the weekends if you relocate here, and I know you all are jealous of my pics.

PM me fools. Serious inquiries only or gtfo.

just overnighted my umpteenth guide training application.

if I don't get in this time, I will quit bouldering and devote my life to the destruction of box turtles.

at least it made it here in Thursdays mail instead of Fridays for once.

Says the guy only offering 45K starting for an always on call job. The job market is bad but it's not that bad.

I could get him up to 55, but you'd have to be here. plus rent is covered, that's $19K a year right there ... but only in that location ($1600 a month). I'm sure none of you want the job anyway, but if you're interested in working remotely after coming in and setting us up (he'd like to meet the person), quote him an hourly rate for remote work, come up with a number of hours per month you'd like to see, and holler at me.

Yeah he's a lowballer. Still pays me shit ... until this new website launches ... if his offer isn't complete BS.

Still, if someone of skill could work remote and quote between $50 and $75/hr, he'd probably hire you. I guess nobody's into extra work these days? All very comfortably rockin 6-figure salaries?

Fuck it, he's hiring some guy in SF and letting him work remote for $70/hr. Looks like this is now irrelevant.

he'll turn over in a month or two. and then you'll be back as mr cheap boss' head hunter looking for a dbag that will do the job for 25% of what its worth. the rate should be at least 150/hr for a competent individual.

talk to you then.

Is it really? Our last guy seemed comfortable charging $85/hr. If this is the case, I'll let the guy know he's offering too little for commitment.

HM. Well there are lots of programmers out there, but probably not enough competent ones. What do you fools think would be appropriate hourly? And what would be appropriate if someone were take advantage of the free apartment (saving 19K per year)?
Your opinions are appreciated, even if they're BS, Criz.

Depends on in or out of office and contract or employee.

I would guess anything under $100hr is laughable..
