Just standard adjustments of a raw file through lightroom. So...photoshop-ish.

This was taken during my recent trip to India. A mantis about the size of a common black ant.

Curious what's going to happen. I've used them (successfully) for my photo printing needs. I hope they can keep functioning in that capacity.

Three stops down. Why so overexposed? Effect is lost on me. This is a good shot.

new camera today. panasonic ag-af100. feels a bit like a toy. but then you get going with the lens, beyond the buttons, and it starts to look more real.

Damn... You couldn't find a PHOTO instead of a giant horribly done rendering???

I'm looking at pro camcorders for business rentals and nobody rents those things because as far as I know (and havent looked in a while) all the faster frame rates shoot interlaced and not progressive (And lets face it, everybody wants fast frame rates these days). The NEX FS100 by Sony has many more features and a better mount for the same money. But really what you want for the pro shizzle is the Sony F3L. We've been shooting on it for the past two weeks and combined with a nice Angenieux Optimo lens it's fucking unreal the pictures you can get...

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. Shooting bouldering vids for internet or weddings that thing will rule... But once you start shooting anything for DVD or television, the limitations really start to show. The Panasonic codec also kinda blows. But you can work around that with a little patience.

Here's our F3L in kil mode:

i like it rendered because it looks so smooth and space age. no buttons. sorry so huge- it fits on 2 monitors.

the sony is good, but if i recall no nd filters built-in. we thought about that one though. this will be for interviews in a studio setting. someone else bought it so happy to be gifted with it.

i think the bouldering vids will still be on the sony fx -100. it's nice to hold and move and all very intuitive.

I mean, sure, it's got a built in ND filter, but honestly if you are using it in a professional setting 10 times out of 10 you are going to have a matte box on the front of it that takes proper glass ND filters, and use those if you have to.

But if you are in the studio you would just light to sensor ISO and minimize the glass you have to shoot through anyways. Why would an ND filter be useful in a studio setting for doing interviews?

The FS100, as you said, is more compact and can be built into a variety of rigs, including underslung. It's the car rig camera of choice right now.

But shit, if somebody else bought it for you, who gives a shit? That thing kills on image quality but you have to use nice and I mean NICE lenses to take advantage of the ultimate quality. Cooke or Angenieux or some of the higher end Zeiss ultraprimes and stuff. If you use shite low end Zeiss or Nikon or Canon etc you are leaving a LOT on the table.

nice to know slim about the importance of the lens. just getting into that part of things. i like the machine like, rendered aspect of the video camera. it's digital. but faking the filmic thing is pretty cool.

i was thinking nd filters would be handy for documentary-making. beyond that matching up somehow with the realism of the eye looking at the world and putting it together.

we're still on the old sony fx100 and it's nice to move by hand. the new smaller one looks like a weapon.
