I wouldn't buy a CVT. Only time will tell how reliable it is, but it just sucks to drive IMO. Have you tested one? Feels really weird.

I liked the linear transmission in the Nissan Murano.

Really? Up until you I have heard unanimous negative feedback from CVT's from all kinds of automotive enthusiasts. What did you like about it more than a traditional manual?

I liked pressing the accelerator and having a smooth acceleration through to the triple digits. It was zippy!

Yes, I drove a 2011 Outback and a 2010 Outback and Forester. Also a 2008 Forester(suck). I don't actually mind the CVT. Certainly, it's different than any transmission I've driven. It seems very response. It doesn't seem sporty in any way, which is probably a good thing for my lead foot. It accelerates continuously and efficiently

I went and drove some again last night and asked the salesguy about them. He claimed their Japanese models have had CVTs for a while now. So if they've been using it I don't see any reason to be concerned. Unless, of course, the version of CVT they're using here is different than over there.

I'm fairly certain this transmission isn't designed for someone who loves the feel of shifting, the feel of power at varying RPMs, or anything else that comes with depressing the clutch and dropping into gear to blast past a granny on the highway. My old Jetta 1.8T was a fun car to drive. However, I'm not considering this car from a "fun drive" perspective. I had my fun, it got me arrested. I need a car that's comfy, drives well, and is stable. CVT doesn't detract from that.

Although, I'm certain it sucks for the enthusiasts if all their cars are going this route, though. Sorry dudes! EPA says your sporty transmission isn't fuel efficient enough!

CVTs are nothing new in subies, the old Justy had them in the 80s. They didn't seem to break, but then again the Justy was a tiny car.

The Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive "CVT" planetary gear arrangement is pretty clever. Super simple, reliable and helps accomplish the regen.

Day after purchase.

After rocking trucks for a decade+, I figured this ride would be fun.

We'll see how it rolls in the snow come winter.. snow tires for sure. This is where I may miss my truck..

The feel of a European car is not comparable to anything else. Balance and stability. Power and reliability..

I still miss the 4x4 truck though... I might get one for winter and keep the bimmer for around town. Word.

I think if you had owned ANY of the Peugeots I have, you would rethink your assessment of European cars.

But hey... if YOUR European car is a perfect blend of power and reliability, I am very happy for you.

Do you work on your own vehicles? If not you should learn. One of the better investments you can make. People complain when I have to charge them 3 or 4 grand in labor to work on their house but think nothing of handing over 2 grand to a mechanic for 4 hrs worth of work. And the real kick in the balls is I'm increasing the value of their home. Mechanics are thieves plain and simple. I don't think I've ever met an honest one.

Here's a scenario .. You call me and tell me your roof is leaking (I don't fix roofs, I'm too white for that but this is hypothetical), I come to your house and tell you I'm going to put in a new window. When I'm done I ask you for 3000$. The next time it rains, your house is filled with water. You call me and say there's water everywhere. I say "Oh, it must have been your roof ." Bring it in I'll put on a new roof. " You sue me. No one ever sues a fucking mechanic and they do that shit every day.
