A couple shots from the GA aquarium. Too little light for better DOF but still cool looking:

Am I the only one who wants some part of that image extracted and then displayed without the weird overlapping pano-effects?!?!?!

Not that it isn't cool to see it all and stuff.

I had a dream about cameras and lenses last night. A pile of these were blocking my path down a flight of stairs. And I couldn't find my body to attach it to some enormous Canon lens. It was a might bit strange.

Haha I just read some reviews of that lens... It has an LCD panel on the top and an internal battery to aid in focusing. The thing costs $25,999 brand new and comes with a 2x teleconverter that makes it into a 400-1000 mm f5.6 zoom. Pretty astounding, but jesus. I guess this is used to shoot surfers from the shore and birds in far off trees. You'd have to be really making some money to justify one of these things.

I picked up a 50mm f1.4 prime. It's less than $400, for one of the fastest lenses Nikon has ever made. The dog is lying UNDER the coffee table, on an overcast day. This is at 1000 ISO:

What's amazing is that you spent $400 so you can photograph your dog, under the coffee table, on a low light day.

But hey, I'm sure that we will get to see some awesome photos of porch, on his dark lowballs, on overcast days. And they will look great. Lowball lens.

Just test shots. It will be a great medium tele for shooting bouldering shots and portraits and whatever else.

Thats peanuts for a lens you know? Any other f1.4 and you are in over a grand easy. I'm just excited because for the past five years I've had a crappy body and a couple of rinky dink lenses, the primary one being a 12-24mm dx f4. It's too fucking slow... It's going to be so nice to have a new selection of faster glass to play with. Yipee!

Haters gonna hate.

I think the fast lens is nice. This one in particular. Your meager f1.4 quivers!

edit: But at $1500, I have other things to purchase first. Canon does make a perfectly acceptable f1.4 for $400. Not L, but not shite either. Fast lenses are win.

See, in that instance you'd be NUTS to spend $1100 to gain a half stop...

Nice grab on the 50mm slim. You'll love it in the boulders.
