I fucking LOVE route setting. I love route setting more than I love climbing. And that is saying a lot. I want to be the best route setter in the country and I want people to know it. Not for the sake of my little ego, but because I believe that productive achievement is man’s noblest activity and I want to be judged by mine. I won’t quit till it happens.

so jamie emerson is bullshitting with some young CO comp climbers sessioning this slopey arete problem called gangbang. these kids are projecting it. trying really hard. getting close. whatever. jamie's all like, "i've done this problem a hundred times. just keep your feet on. blah. blah." then he campuses the problem a few times. after that, one of the older kids said to jamie, "haven't you sent this with a crashpad on?" jamie said, "yeah." the youngest kid, maybe 12, replies to this with honest curiosity, "why don't you climb on something else then?"
we all laughed at jamie uproariously. then he left. it was great.
