Medical Marijuana

Medical Marijuana

Postby Lox » Wed Jun 16, 2010 1:26 pm

So... it's hittin' the Arizona ballot in November and I am looking forward to my chance to vote "yes." I hope that if this initiative has gone to vote in your state, you have voted against the wasteful war on drugs and a government bloated and empowered by prohibition policy.

In recent discussions with people who live or could live in states with Medical MJ laws, I hear mixed reactions on actually getting your scrip and buying from your local care provider. The main resistance seems to be that the government will know you went to the trouble to obtain legal weed. The flipside is jars of weed peanut butter, other delicious edibles, and the dank diggity all acquired on the up-and-up.

So what do y'all think, especially those with legal and medical backgrounds. Can the government identify you as a user if you get a scrip, or just if you use it? Would this be any worse than not getting a scrip, getting caught, and going into the books as a conviction? Am I putting my doctor at risk asking him for scuch a scrip?

I'd think that being on a confidential doctor/patient database would be better than staying illegal and potentially getting caught and convicted, but maybe I'm overlooking something... thoughts?

Question! If medimari is legal in Arizona, can employers still drug test/fire people with scripts?

Comment! If you can get the dank nugs and tasty treats legally, go for it. It's well worth being in some doctor's computer.

If operating equipment under the influence of prescription painkillers is currently illegal, I see no reason why it wouldn't be illegal to similarly operate equipment under the influence of mj. Also, I think that if you were tested and tested positive, you couldn't be excluded from employment if you had a scrip. Wouldn't a drug test show codeine, and you would be denied employment if you didn't have a legit reason for taking it?

Can employees be fired for prescription abuse already? If you're drooling all over the copy paper because you've been pumping oxy all day, I probably want you fired. You can sell me pills to make up for your loss.

would be nice to not have to see pissing MJ positive as a job deterrent.

would be nice to see schools getting the supplies and teachers they need because of tax dollars gained.

Vote Vote Vote. Cali is putting Mj on the ballot in November for legal recreational use. The more states that fall in to the medical Mj the better for the rest of the nation. Colorado just cracked down on how it id going to be grown an distributed, but all of this is a step forward. Tax it and sell it with the booze!

I dont see how the govt. can come after you if you have a legal card? Legal is legal right?

Sideways peace sign drop the mic.

Vote for it.

Will help your state budget problems (tax revenues, reduced costs associated with incarceration).
Will help with some of the organized crime issues.
Will reduce prices and increase quality of product.

The only negatives I've seen so far:
- if you're an (illegal) grower you'll be fucked as prices decrease.
- the inevitable conflict with the Feds.
- if following current models, massive penalties for those who resell their scrip sourced product.

oy vey...

i have no problem with people smoking. i think pot should be legalized. for everyone. no script, no medical condition. put down your cash, maybe pay the tax, and light up. everyone gets that warm fuzzy feeling.

there's no evidence that smoked marijuana does anything the anecdotal reports tout. i realize the limitations of researching a Schedule I drug and the fact that a lack of evidence does not prove it ineffective.

if marijuana is considered a medication, it should be regulated as such. safety & efficacy & good manufacturing processes oversaw by the FDA and dispensing by licensed pharmacists pursuant to a legitimate Rx from a licensed doctor.

let it begin.

My only issue with all that is the inevitable backlash from the people who believe the hype. I think that the medicinal model would be a good sell to those people and open the door for further relaxation of policy later, after they realize that crime and potheads aren't spinning out of control and fucking society up. I think it is the political realist in me. Of course, the FDA oversight of production is another thing to overcome. Self-cultivation is also key. The AZ law provides for 12 plants per patient. I could live on that!

And it would create many jobs, especially in the fast food industry.

No way that shit will pass. In the Tucson and Flag areas it will probably do pretty well. It will be interesting to see how the more rural counties vote, especially those along the border. But Maricopa will shoot this fucker down.

It's about 75% for in Mohave County, the conservative county that shot down Prop 100.

Plus it passed before. The cool thing about conservatives is the property rights/states rights issue. Lots of rural Arizonans see this as taking power back from the feds.

Yeah, the libertarian/states rights folks are the ones that will make it interesting. But I think all the Sheriff Joe cheerleaders in PHX who care more about seeing 'the bad guys' get locked up than they do about justice or a rational approach to drug laws are the ones that will ultimately shoot it down.

When did it pass before? What ended up happening to the law?
