flagstaff is in arizona and is at altitude.

also, for some reason, folks that post here tend to think of flag as the center of modern civilization.

Flagstaff, AZ is up in the mountains and is about 8 hours from LA. We have limestone roofs, sandstone, and basalt bouldering... plus tons of ropes climbing. Indian Creek may be too hot, but Paradise Forks may not be. We also have deep water soloing. And Flag has the grand canyon to look at on a rest day. Don't miss that. Take a bike ride on the rim.

Then from here it's 6 hours to Joes or 12 hours to the front range, so it is a good jumping off point or final stop for your trip.

Paradise Forks:

Not as dramatic as Indian Creek, eh? I hear the climbing is superb.

It is also the home ground of "campusman"..Or campus"mang"...or whoever..

I find it astonishing I wasted so much time climbing there between 1979 and 1985...

I have the boat lined up, but have been informed the high water mark is where the choss starts, so much of what is under 35 feet of climbing is waterlogged sandstone aka chosssssssssssssssssssss.

I think that the level dropped about 30 feet about 5 years ago and never recovered. I have been told narrow canyons and roof areas are crumbly sand.

i find it really hard to believe that those two tiny little canyons in winslow have all that climbable rock, and all of lake powell and lake mead have nothing.. somewhere along all that shoreline there has to be good patina, maybe even limestone? limestone does fine underwater for 60 years.

Word to the crik, pander. Bigwall and I are probably heading out over the next couple days if you're into it.

Also: Paradise Forks is rad if you're into ropes. You can chase shade all day.

august is an awesome month. to be able to climb sans chemise, flags off, as they say in thunder bay, and also, my dear french friend, with all of your romance and your civilized grace, and critical theory, little cigarettes and baguettes, you wonderful race of afro-islamic-jewish-european humanity, inventors of humanism and post-humanism, maybe squamish is the place to go. then indulge- go for a swim down south before leaving from los angeles.

Yes! But do not avoid RMNP or Mt Evans.

If you want stellar sprot chuffing at 2300m elevation, about 4 hours East from Flagstaff AZ, visit the Enchanted Tower.
