So Landon Donovan is going to Everton on loan:

Good decision. "Best player in America"? I would have thought Clint Dempsey might have something to say about that. Playing in EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga or Ligue 1 >>>>> MLS (or A League).

In a brilliant piece of tactical football, Donovan broke Cashley Cole's ankle the other night. Not only does it mean that Cole preparation will be fucked, but Wayne Bridge is first choice to replace Cole at left back for England.

Donovan's been playing pretty well for Everton, too.

With Dempsey and Donovan both playing pretty well in the EPL, the US are looking pretty good for a round of 16 spot. Very good, even.

I'm not so optimistic about our chances though. Injuries, age and a tough group are going to make things difficult.

Australia played New Zealand last night, and won 2-1, with the second goal coming in the 94th minute. New Zealand lost a game to Fiji in the qualifying rounds, and we only just beat them by one goal. We have Germany, Ghana and Serbia in our group. We will not be playing beyond the group stages.

We have Algeria and Slovenia in our group, along with England. There is a chance to get through, but knowing the US... we won't. It should all be fun to watch.

I'm happy the game times line up the way they do, with early games happening in our timezone at 6:30 a.m., meaning I can be up with coffee and watch a whole game before work. Sick!

Given Brazil's selection choices - I think this could be a wide open Cup.
Obviously Brazil and Spain are the favorites - but you never know.

The only think we can predict is that the US will play an overly conservative game plan and line-up and as a result will show little to no creativity and won't make it out of the group stage.

The Brazilian selection decisions are completely normal compared to Crazy Diego's efforts with the Argies. It's a pity, because on paper they have an amazing squad. Messi, Higuain, Tevez and Millito as your strikers? How the hell do you leave any of them out?

There's an Aus vs US friendly on June 5th. That should give both teams some idea of where we're at. If we can get a point out of Germany in our first game, we'll be sitting pretty. I'm not particularly confident though, even if all our players are fit and uninjured. I think the US has a great group, and should be very disappointed not to go through to the next round.

ZOMG, Serbia lost 0-1 to New Zealand. Just so you know, NZ lost a game to Fiji in the qualifying rounds.

considering our back line is far from top form right now, i'd be happy with a conservative possession game allowing for donavon to slide an open opportunity to altidore or dempsy

forget all that.

there is a better game that has the same movement of futbol, or soccer, or footie, or whatever you want to call that slow no-scoring game that the rest of the world prefers.

forget the world cup!

Lakers vs. Celtics!!!!
