Noise, bring it

I'm finding out I'm not the biggest Jay-Z mashup fan. Maybe not even a Jay-Z fan.

The Big/XX is decent, unless you really like your hiphop with a hiphop beat.

i never really got in to biggie or jigga originally.

and in fact, it occured to me after what slim said about eminem that i don't really place that much value on what rappers really have to say. it adds flavor, but -

i'm really in to what the DJ's, producers, and musicians are doing.

i really like mash-ups because - for the most part - they're not commercially viable. it's music for fans of music by fans of music.

most importantly - everything i just reccomended was free.

there are other great mash-ups by Girl Talk, DJ Godfather, and DJ Z-trip that may cost you a minimum amount of money or a donation, but they are pretty much worth the investment if you are a fan of the music.

the point is: mashups are found art.

also, mash-ups - remixes and samples - are the heart of what created a revolution in modern music.

for example - let's go back to tone-loc and wild thing.

nobody funky really wanted to listen to van halen anymore, but that sample riff?

that is the shit.

i don't listen to biggie, or The XX - but together?

helz yeah!

listen to phil collins?

with mike tyson knocking some fool out?

Priceless.

Are two bit hipsters really after hip hop now? Really?

DJ Shadow is the last remix/sample based artist I cared for. I'm hopelessly old fashioned.

yeah, and Steinski is who DJ shadow and Cut Chemist were influenced by.

i'd hate to think you would call an OG a "hipster".

i'm a counterculturalist bred of the states of California and Hawaii with my influences in 60's and 70's pop culture.

i was listening to hip hop - to quote the beastie boys - since you were still sucking your momma's dick.

where did this steinski talk come from?

im just saying that I haven't heard anything impressive out of that genre lately. Dangermouse, Cut Chemist, Shortkut, yada yada they are all pretty good, but hardly revolutionary. Poor remixes of Biggie et al don't even deserve comment really. sorry i hurt your feelings.

The Hipster comment was more directed at this type of thing:

You have Biggies lyrics, which sound great without a driving hip hop beat and with minimal accompaniment.

Then you have a break to a "chorus" sung by some douchey white hipster who probably just shaved his moustache.

"I watch things on VCR"

"VCR"

"I watch things on VCR"

"VCR"

Fucking really? How can you take this seriously? I just laugh. What would BIG think?

Upon further examination of "the XX" band bio page they refer to their brand of music as "dream pop." sorry guys. And here I thought you had just come up with some meaningless alternative indie drivel that sounds like every other band. "Dream pop" is a whole new Genre, and thus "the xx" are the OG artists in a whole new kingdom of indie pop. Respect is obviously due. my bad.

slim - i'd understand if you were joking about the bluegrass.

is there a genre that is more opposed to hip-hop?

gawd i hate that redneck whine.

however, as somebody that has sucked at guitar playing at different levels for about, oh - 30 years or more -

i can really appreciate the talent those white boys have and wish like hell i had half of their right-hand technique.

my tastes in noodling are really old fashioned, and run a little darker:

oops! almost forgot - thanks DM.

Listened to the Kleptones Night at the Hiphopera and all I have to say is...

Whoever thought mixing hair metal, queen, and random hiphop together to try to make a rock opera with heavy hair metal overtones is the stupidest fucking person in the entire fucking universe. After the Ol' DB/Another One Bites The Dust mashup, everything totally fucking sucked and I had to turn it off during the butchering of the real slim shady. I would have rather actually listen to slim shady being butchered that "music" was so bad. I have been told that it is near impossible to erase soemthing off your iPod, but for this album, I'm going to try like hell. I can't believe there is one single living person who's tastes combine in this way, someone who actually can say to themself, yeah mix tha queen and eminem up with some whitesnake and poison so I can get my groove on.

I was hoping for an actual hip hop/opera crossover. Now I can never have that drive across town back.

20 minutes of a Pixies documentary is rocking so much harder than the Kraptones.
