Give it to me straight

Give it to me straight

Postby Whiteflash » Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:37 pm

Ok, so my wife just matched at Northwestern. Is my climbing life over? Closest rock 5-6 hours away? Fuck. I mean....throw me a bone?

Talk to Peemahn...

Welcome to the poseur life. You can still get sweaty at the local gym and flex your man boobs to make the ladies wet.

Suicide.

Sad!

I don't know where you live, but if you're used to hopping in a car for a short jaunt to some fine boulders, your life is over in that respect. There are some very dedicated people who frequent SoIL and/or the Red during the good seasons. You can drive 3 hours to Devil's Lake and play on some boulders. I haven't been there in about 6 years, though, and don't know what the current "scene" is like. Probably crowded and touristy.

If you want to stay in shape for climbing, there are options for that. But again, plastic man. Poseur 4 lyfe and all that shit.

As an alternative to climbing, you could eat a lot of food, drink a lot of beer, and get fat.

I lived in a flat place once--Savannah, GA. Drunkest, fattest, and angriest I've ever been.

So it is basically as bad as I imagined. Awesome. Well, here's to hoping I can land a job at least. If not, I do love beer...

You're looking at years on the "Shake Weight". Maybe look into one of the new Computerized Crimp Machines. They are pet friendly.

Athens ain't that far from climbing. Shit, I spend more time on the road than I do at home, so it's not really an issue.

I don't think he mentioned anything about Athens.

Devil's Lake 2-3 hours away. Tourist-y at the main walls, but there's stuff that goes unclimbed for years at a time. And, it is a beautiful place. But the stone is... you'd probably only be interested in the sandstone area.

I've chosen option B. The alternative lifestyle. Fat&drunk4lyfe.

The Irish will adapt.

I foresee 50 extra pounds of paunch mostly located around the midsection and a steady decline in boldering powah. Good thing you sent the Orb this year. Strongest you'll ever be bro.

Lets grab dinner some time muthafucka.

You gots to come over and check out my new chicken coop...

How long is her residency?

I've spent one day at Devils Lake - that was plenty. Load up your mp3 player and get a case of Red Bull and get the drive to SoIll dialed.

And make sure she knows that when she gets a real job, that first pay check buys tickets to Mallorca.

Well, she was in tears all match day for doing this to me. So she wasn't exactly syked to be moving to Chicago either, minus the program being excellent. We played no games with programs and this was our fourth choice, though when you are only applying to top programs anything can happen. Colorado was next on the list, so close. Residency is four years and I already have a solemn blood swear that we WILL BE MOVING TO ROCK NEXT. This was one of two cities on the list I didn't want to move to, oh well. Just going to demand 2-3 real climbing trips per year and get syked on 5 hours of driving, how are the cops in Illinois. Oh, and another bullshit thing I CAN'T HAVE MY FUCKING GUN IN CHICAGO WTF?!
