my wife turns 40 next month and I have been struggling to find the right gift, blah blah . . . maybe it is fate then that a friend of a friend wants to unload this - her dream car - for a ridiculous price

Only 20k miles.

Can you say v12? Anyone want to buy a 2006 330 convertible?

V12? What you talkin bout Willis?

Corvette is value though. You can pick up a nice one for cheap, and they do pretty well on gas because of a tall 6th gear. Should be able to nudge 30mpg on highway cruises.

Unless you are okay with BLEEDING money, don't buy a British made exotic with a V12 engine. Especially one made over ten years ago! Dream car or not.

That's my fear, the maintennace - not the up-front cost, becasue the deal is ridiculous. Going to see if the current owner has receipts and try to talk to a couple of repair guys to get an idea what I might be in for.

Yeah I predict the findings will have you running in fear. Maintaining any car like that becomes a very costly proposition.

isn't the saying something like -

one needs to own two british sportscars.

one to drive,

and,

one for the mechanic.

I worked for a mechanic who specialized in British sports cars.

I'd echo the opinion of the folks who've already posted. Money pit.

That being said.... the good ones are lovely cars that make you feel really special.

My biggest two pieces of advice:

1 - if you don't have a local very good mechanic who specializes in these cars, do not buy it. Really. Just don't.
2 - before you buy it, pay that same mechanic to check it out and tell you the risks / issues and ask them for price ranges for the things that could go wrong.

what's the deal with the colonial fantasy? i thought the importance of being american was the freedom to do whatever you wanted to do, supplied with the assumption that this didn't require slaves, colonies, or an empire. maybe just a car.

i was kind of taken aback by the corvette fantasy, but adjusted to that more easily than the idea of a country estate. people get carried away with mowing their lawns.

what i love about this is that it's really the wife's fantasy. leaverbiner is a cipher for womanly desire.

My wife is obsessed with all things British. It scares me sometimes. If you handed her a piece of dog shit and told her it was from England, she'd probably put it on the mantle.

...i sat in a DB9 once...your balls grow and bitches jump your bones in british sports cars.

not that i like cars for that. BUT, and this is up for debate, i think the Dodge Viper is the best bang for you buck if you want a true panty dropper.

ive seen how whores flock towards vipers, its wierd. over ferraris even...slim, would you agree?

british cars have the James Bond appeal to them maybe? stupid whores.
