Spend some time in Squamish and you'll appreciate an attentive spotter. Thomo tends to specifically ask for a really close spot for moves where she feels like she might come off the holds out of control, like she asked for in this instance. In my experience, the people who find it strange that someone spots closely are the people who really suck at spotting.
