One of my all time favorites. I had a period where I read all the accounts of the Himalayan first ascents, but Annapurna was by far the best. Maurice Herzog is an amazing story teller. If you're still on the kick, the story of the first ascent of The Matterhorn is pretty crazy. It actually ended up ruining Whympers reputation.

You can see the infamous rope when you visit Zermatt. That and the mountaineers' cemetery are both pretty awesome. You know... besides the fucking Matterhorn and the mountainous playground n shit.

Bring cash tho. The chapter on Switzerland in How to See Europe for Five Dollars per Day just says "Don't come here."

I duno, long hikes up big hills just don't seem that exciting to me. It's like left right left for 8000 paces. Wooo.

I will absolutely get there one day. But I still have to cross the Adirondacks off the list. And Chattanooga.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe: attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate.

But I also have not been to Chattanooga. I hear the boldering is fanfuckingtastic.

Chattanooga is a gorgeously placed city.

Just went for Spring break.

I think alpinists should rename Nuptse to Whooptse in honor of Uli Steck.

This is why the New is greatest place i've ever been. It's like a naturally occurring mosquito net for yuppies
