Question about climbing instructors

I'm trying to build a directory of climbing instructors and I wonder how many of them are out there.

Is it common to hire a climbing instructor? Do most of them work through a local gym, or are they independent? I know most gyms offer beginner classes up through lead climbing, but where would you go to find something more specialized like rescue climbing or canyoneering?

To find a climbing instructor one would normally: Jerk off into a nalgene. Microwave said nalgene for 14 minutes (with cap on). Then take it to your nearest climbing gym, open the nalgene and the scent should attract all of the 'proz' in the facility.
