LHR

Postby Ikefromla » Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:01 pm

I was trying to fly to LA today, but Heathrow got snowed in. I have to be back there before security opens tomorrow morning so I can secure a seat on a flight outta here. Typical.

Apparently they don't know how to deal with it here. Although it didn't snow today, almost all flights were canceled again today. BUY A FUCKING SNOWPLOW.

The only thing great about LHR is their capacity to fuck up handling a situation like this.

God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
Potential H-bomb

God save the queen
She ain't no human being
There is no future
In England's dreaming

Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future, no future,
No future for you

God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves

God save the queen
'Cause tourists are money
And our figurehead
Is not what she seems

Oh God save history
God save your mad parade
Oh Lord God have mercy
All crimes are paid

When there's no future
How can there be sin
We're the flowers in the dustbin
We're the poison in your human machine
We're the future, your future

God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves

God save the queen
We mean it man
And there is no future
In England's dreaming

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future,
No future for me

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future
For you

So I see a headline that says "Has Heathrow's reputation been damaged?"

WTF?

Does Heathrow need a reputation for more than "being the place you fly into in London" ? I mean, will people avoid London because of Heathrow? And even if an airport's reputation IS somehow important, is it really so important that freak weather must be prepared for? Do they need to maintain a fleet of snowplows for the off chance that once in 25 years someone may miss a Christmas and then blame Heathrow!??!?!?

I think Heathrow should tell the whiners to sod off and then shut down for as long as they want. Sorry Ike, but I bet Christmas in London would be sweet...

I believe it's possible that some people may choose Frankfurt over LHR as their layover airport of choice due to LHR's epic pooch screwing. There are flight options. But yea, overall, probably not going to change anyone's travel plans. Besides, as I stated previously, their signage is great. Much better than ORD, that's for certain. I choose LHR for the signs.

And the shopping.

This is not some 25 year freak storm. This has happened every winter for the last 5. Not necessarily on Christmas every year.
They don't need a fleet of snowplows, but they do need more than one! Just like the city of London doesn't have enough salt every time it snows. It snows all the fucking time, stock up on some salt. You're located close to the arctic, it's gray and rainy half the year, temps get below freezing for several months, and you don't anticipate snow??

it's an interesting disaster of planning. like a human made refugee camp, somewhat like a doppleganger version of the evil raiders' moving castle fortress in the film Krull, but in the present instance it's waiting passengers instead of guys in black spiky suits on horses, people suddenly sitting around instead of popping into existence and tearing around, raiding the countryside. the point is that in both cases, the phenomenon just pops up, as if an unprecedented crisis.
