Hip Scope

Hip Scope

Postby skav » Fri Jul 30, 2010 8:35 pm

Any of you old and decrepit folks ever have one? Looks like I tore the cartilage in my hip joint early June. Going to get MRIs next week to make sure, then it's knifeparty time.

Or am I the only one here with hip problems?

I hope they let me watch. So far I've gotten to watch every (two) surgery I've ever had. Don't want to ruin a perfect record.

Still no meds though. I think my look of youthful innocence is failing me.

i had my hip scoped for torn cartiledge in march 2009. didn't get too watch, they put you under because they have to dislocate your hip during the procedure. hip is good as new now. was on crutches for about a week, was able to start biking after abouy 4 weeks and running after 6. took me a few months to feel comfortable falling while bouldering, but that was more mental than anything.

Awesome, thanks for the input. Hoping to be off crutches/mobile by my sister's wedding in October.

One other thing, did you need to do focused rehab/pt as part of the recovery or was it more a case of wait until its usable and then gradually get back to normal activity?

Are you really asking if pt is required after major surgery?

I did pt following my circumcision. Pt is fun.

Meh, phrased poorly. Sometimes the pt you do at a clinic isn't worth the bother of going to a clinic in the first place.

Oh I'd absolutely skimp on PT. I mean... it's not like it's a good investment or anything.

WTF?!?!?

Seriously.

Take it from someone who has had one shoulder completely redone, dislocated a wrist on a sloper, strained his rotator cuffs numerous times, nuked both ankles, and recently herniated 2 disks and is recovering without surgery:

DO THE PT. ALL. OF. IT.

YES, I'M YELLING. POSSIBLY WHILE SHAKING YOU.

The more you work your ass off in PT the better you will be in the end. Failure to work early can add incredible lengths of time to your full recovery. Make sure your Therapist knows you want to PUSH< PUSH AND PUSH some more. Many Therapists get caught in a rutt of doing a routine and most of thir patients are alzy out of shape pieces of shit. PUSH YOUR THERAPIST TO PUSH YOU!

Good Luck!

And when they tell you "you'll probably need to do physical therapy upkeep for the rest of your life", don't ignore them.

May as well drop the "physical" part and just keep it to therapy in general.

actually, despite all the know-it-all-fucktards giving advice on a surgical procedure they have NOT had, there was no PT for the hip scope (leaverbiner did NOT have his hip scoped). with the scope, they are just cutting you and trimming away the torn shit, so there isn't any muscular, tendon, or ligament manipulation. i was surprised when the dr. said no PT but it was definitely a case of just get back to using it when it feels better...

Yeah... 'cause they're sure as fuck not cutting through any muscle, right?

Any doc who tells you you shouldn't bother with PT after surgery is a hack.
