i want to play Red Dead Redemption.
the problem is,
the last time i played a video game, it was GT back in 2001.
and before that it was GALAXIAN/GALAGA back at the cornershop.
what do i need to get?
what does a noob need 2 know?
am just destined to suckage and hate?

I want to play this as well. I think I almost have the wife sold on streaming HD movies from netflix as a reason to buy a PS3.

Three words - Call of Duty
I never played a first person shooter until my neighbor convinced me to try Call of Duty, I have been hooked ever since.
600# to answer your question, yes you are destined for death and suckage, but it is still fun.

If the PS2-as-DVD experience has been ported to the PS3, you don't want to rent many blue-rays for it. The streaming netflix is probably better for that anyway, unless I'm incorrect in thinking its HD.
Also, the PS3 is like a media management thing, so you can easily show photos and slideshows on your widescreen for people. Much better than trying to gather the in-laws around the laptop to see the last round of vacation pics.

ps3 works great as blu-ray player. Get the bluetooth controller for it, just like a vcr remote. using the controller is horrid.

This, except the controller part. It's not horrid just crappy as one would expect it to be. And the money saved can buy a new game.
Also, media streaming from a computer to the ps3 is tight. I use something called TVersity on my computer to serve up all my videos plus streaming shiz from places like Hulu.

I was raised on video games. Of course, they weren't in our home so it was easier to control access. And games weren't so sex + violence yet (sadly). Can you not control this stuff, get age appropriate games, teach kids quick, good decision making, and choke out hookers in GTA after hours? I mean... I would think a PS3 would be necessary to fatherhood and sanity.
