Hi there,
I am planning a 2 monthes bouldering (and sport) tour in the western US for the summer 2011. I know it's early but I'de really like to precisely plan this!
For the moment, I am thinking about starting from LA :
- The Tram and Black Mountain
- Bishop
- Yosemite
- Tahoe
- Smith Rocks
- Idaho, Wyoming and Montana : any good areas?
- Salt Lake City
- Colorado
- Arizona (any cold places in summer?)
- Back to LA

What do you think of that? Any advice?

Thanks

Gaby

I'll double blimps 2 cents and make it 4.

you'll definitely meet a better class of americans that way.

L.A. to Flagstaff in one push. Stay here for 3 weeks (or so). Then head to RMNP through southwestern Colorado. Maybe take a day and do some hikin' in the Rockies. Stay in the front range for another 3 weeks. As you drive back to L.A. to catch your return flight, hit up the Utah mountains.

Planning to do less will give you more flexibility.

Joe's stays pretty good in the summer. You can chase the shade, swim in the middle of the day, and it's almost always breezy during the hottest months. The sandstone is pretty forgiving in the heat, also. If I'm still alive in 2011, contact me for a tour.

ha.. well, contact "paracocks" even if he is dead shit he'd prolly make better company that way anyway.

why come to "Merika" anyway? it sucks here. there's nothing but horrible evil yucky "poopoo" people who love spilling oil and making illegal immigrants do "icky" things.

horrible place / places.

just ask all the shiteaters on here like lox, pmun, skav, etc., etc.,. just bad. everywhere else is better.

I know I'll get lambasted for this suggestion, but fuck the haters. If you'll be heading from UT, AZ or CO back to LA anyway, and you intend to sport climb (chuff) anyway, you should stop in Vegas and climb at Mt Charleston for a couple days. Since you're from france you'll find it familiar, bullet hard limestone, fixed draws, and at least one chipped hold on most of the routes.
And I second Flag and CO for sure. Black Mt is hit or miss with temps in the summer, but Tram usually stays ok.

If I had to pick a couple of areas, I would suggest:
- Colorado
- Tuolumne
- Flagstaff
- Squamish

i'd be psyched on that tour.

it doesn't get as much pub as RMNP, but i really enjoyed my trip to Evans - as far as Colorado goes.

and wtf? southwestern DWS looks like a good idea.

Thanks guys. Still have a couple of questions.

I am a little bit surprised that Flagstaff is proposed several times. Isn't Arizona too hot in summer?

Where is Grand Ledge? Any good? For what? Bouldering? Sport?
