Chickens!

Chickens!

Postby slim » Sat Apr 10, 2010 10:46 pm

The coop is very close to completion. All that it needs is a gate to the run and a few bits of wire screen to keep out rodents. More pics to come.

Not sure any of our dogs would allow that.

it's awesome that rodents are all you need protection from.

i cannot wait to get set up for chickens, but i got rodents too .. also hawks, owls, eagles, 5 kinds of rattlesnake, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, feral dogs/cats, and a mountain lion.

Well we have a variety of predators but I think rodents will be our biggest concern.

We have red tailed hawks that like to kill innocent little chicks. We also have owls, raccoons and possums, but they all hunt at night and the chickens will be locked up at night safe in their coop. We have a few neighborhood coyotes and stray dogs, but we have a six foot privacy fence.

We are going to run into some problems down the road I'm sure. Chickens are delicious to more than just humans!

Haha! Nice work with the dog. We had chicken's growing up an our dogs would generally be nice to the chickens but never be pals like that.

I keep hoping to see a huge western diamond back so I can test out a recipe I dreamed up, but no.. Rattlesnake fajitas! Went snake hunting with pitansk last year and only killed 3 quail.

The coolest part about cooking snake is how it curls up in the pan as you're cooking it.

That seems reasonable for the amount of food you're getting. 84g of protein, maybe 850 calories.
