cold comfort to the players from Ireland, but the least we can hope for.

Haven't seen the game yet but the france/ireland game seems like a load of crap from the highlights. I'd like to see the Netherlands take it at this point. Their style really bridges the gaps the US/UK squads haven't been able to manage on the international level and still makes for exciting watching. Similar to the league/union distinction.

No group of death? Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal is pretty damn death-like.

i guess the closest to one. ivory coast? might give a run for the second spot, but i'm not seeing any big upsets.

Um, yeah. The Ivory Coast have Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Kolo and Yaya Toure, Emannuel Eboue - among others.

England - USA should prove to be an unbearably slow and uneventful match.

Ivory Coast's goaltending is a legit concern.
Otherwise they are a contender for sure.
