Some things may not cost a lot of money, but certainly... there is no free.

flickr, picassa or image shack for free ones. Smugmug and zenfolio are like $30 for the year for the basic, and there are no ads on either.

Just came upon this site by way of a tech news site.

It's essentially like every other free quality photo hosting site except it adds a marketplace for selling your own photos. The website gets some money from each sale, you get the rest.
