Criz - the long and short of it is it SUCKS - once the spurs are growing and you cart. is disintigratign you are fucked. I agree, do not get the replacement yet unless absolutely necessary. I don't say this because the surgeryis so painful or risky or even because it limits your post-op lifestyle - it really doesn't, you could still go Bugs Bunny for Ivan any time you want. The problem is if you get it now, it will never last and you will most certainly have to have it done a second time and that is where the trouble really starts.
Metal on metal is old technology - the most advanced hip replacements are metal encased in ceramic. resultign in ceramic on ceramic - the friction is far less than metal on metal and therefore the lfie expectancy is much greater - very slight risk of squeaking (1/10,000).
