Cool.

I hear that this year is the LAST year of the Pikes Peak Hillclimb as we know it. After this year the unpaved sections will be paved, and there will be no more crazy tarmac / dirt racing hybrid vehicles... BUMMER.

Rumor.

Turbo fours have been used in the past, with little loss in excitement (BMW had one similar to the s14 that produced 1000hp). It is yet undecided what will occur in 2013.

But looks like Bernie got a BeatDown: This is a real ad, not a joke.

Yep. The man's a demonic businessman. He totally had it coming. He'd murder his own mother for a profit.

Well he looked down at my silver chain
He said I'll give you one dollar
I said you've got to be jokin' man
It was a present from me Mother
He said I like it I want it
I'll take it off your hands
And you'll be sorry you crossed me
You'd better understand that you're alone
A long way from home

And I say
I don't like reggae no no
I love it
I don't like reggae oh no
I love it

All I hear when I watch that is the Slip-n-slide theme from TV in the 80s.

If you go to a ALMS race, the different classes have different color (temp K*) headlights so that when viewed at night, you can differentiate the cars from afar. It's hard to see past the lights when a car is heading towards you.

This is the new Audi R18. Debuts at Road Atlanta in October. It's going to be a great year for road racing...

Can I get opinions on the Hybrid vehicles? I'm in the market for a new/slightly used car. By way of rentals, I've driven a wide variety of cars in the last few years. I've liked hybrids, the mileage is nice, no major complaints other than the creepy silence. But is it actually worth it? Will that warm fuzzy feeling I get with 45mpg wear off in a month when I realize the premium paid?

I personally don't think the use of the heavy metals in the batteries in hybrids is sustainable, and we are just trading exhausting one resource (oil) for another (nickle) in the production of these vehicles. If I was going to buy a new car, I would probably steer clear of the hybrid because of this factor. I would consider the hybrid as a used car because then you aren't passing dollars to the production, just to someone who already did that. But, what is the long term reliability of these things? They haven't been around 10 years, so will they last 10 years? I never had a cell phone with a battery that was worth a damn after 9 months.... so.... buyer beware, etc. etc. Also, with the exception of the rare hybrid Accord (which is a nice car), generally you have to drive a civic or a prius or something else that looks like it should be towed behind an RV to Florida.

I was sold on the Honda Element the second I saw the aftermarket lift kit.

I drove the hybrid Accord and I agree, it is a nice car. And I agree with your points about the rare earth metals. Seems more like a gimmick for ignorant consumers (Oh, I love the earth! Nevermind the raping it takes to get the metals from the ground) to make them feel good about getting better mpg.

Do I buy a vehicle that results in the death of ocean ecosystems or small chinese miners?

I'd wait 10 years to buy a used hybrid. But that's only because of my used car philosophy.

Seriously, get yourself a good, efficient high MPG gas engine car. Or just say screw it and buy a westie.

I really don't see the $$ adding up, so only go Hybrid if you have a committment that you feel is being fulfilled . .. my qucik math:

Hybrid 45 mpg
Non-Hybrid 30 mpg

Gas $3.00/gallon
Hybrid = $0.0666/mile
non-Hybrid = $0.10/mile

if in an average year you drive 12,000 miles you would save a whopping $400, assuming all else is qual in terms of maintenance (not likely), over the 5 year life of the vehicle you would possibly save $2,000. Not even close to the difference in cost between the vehicles.
