Other sports

I used to ski VERY passionately/aggressively. But by the time I was 14 I felt that I should chose one (climbing or skiing) and focus my efforts. Plus I found climbing more challenging, and thus more fun, and I would have had to move to really pursue skiing to any further extent. I also skateboarded when I was younger, but got tired of getting hurt.

I've gone through phases when I was rabid about another activity/sport--snowboarding, yoga, swingdancing, drinking--but none--not even drinking--has kept my attention for long. The hurt I feel the day after drinking hard isn't the good hurt of the day after climbing.

Sport is the ritual sacrifice of human effort. The athletes demonstrate to the Gods the worthyness of their creation.

I read this is a book about the original Greek Olympics

I thought it was to give them something "constructive/instructive" to do while they're not at war.

BTW golf is most definitely a sport. Many of the worlds so called "premier" athletes eventually try to master it.

that said .. Any sport that can be played in a bar I work very hard at. Darts, quoits, table tennis, shuffle board .. etc. I've always been an athlete but at this point if I want to be something more than a weekend warrior I don't have time for other activities. I play music as well and that takes up what little of my time and head space is left.. after work and climbing. Unfortunately because I love golf and once took it as seriously as i take music or climbing and I love volleyball as well. 2 o 3 man teams on sand. Nothing else even comes close. probably the third greatest sport on the planet.

If this guy is a professional golfer - then it's not "sport" but rather "hobby" (or "activity").

so baseball's not a sport then? Golf is a sport just not one that takes serious fitness. And Daly is fat. And he drinks alot of cheap beer.
