Actually, YES.

I was searching for the model you mentioned when I found that little 175..

That is a sweet ride. Getting in under a grand on a byouike you can wrench on is a great way to know if you like riding. That is like a scooter on steroids that you could take on a highway for a couple exits. Better that blowing 4k on a GS850 that only looks pretty in your garage...

I'd be terrified on a highway on a 175cc bike. I was always happy to have a bit of extra power to get me out of trouble when riding in traffic.

i would recommend a slightly more modern bike. Disk brakes make a huge difference.

Gotta agree with the power and disk brake views.

How bout KZ1000?

Or, my personal fave:

The Goldwing?

Only KZ1000 in Atlanta area is $5500 DAYUM

Although that looks cool... I'm moving down budget. Less than $2000 would be ideal.

Started on a 200 with drum brakes. After a year of frequent use, I upgraded to more power and discs. No big deal.

If you want a good starter bike, check out the sv650 Suzuki.

not much wrenching by way of maintenance (very low maintenance bike), but there's an entire cult behind modding those bikes. typically not much more than intake & exhaust & chopping as much as possible off the bike. haven't started myself, but it's only a matter of time.

theyre pretty sweet for the price really.

the sv650 is a good starter bike too. again. i kind of fight this notion of "starter bike" though. buy once, cry once, get what you want and love what you get. if you want the triumph, just get it. the ducati, sure why not. bikes are on most peoples bucket list so might as well do it right. plus financing these things is hilarious, i had a $85 a month payment on my first duc...

The Buell makes sense on paper, but there's a couple of things that bother me. Firstly I kinda hate the mini sportbike look. Secondly the low seat height. I'm 6'4". I'd be all scrunched up and shit wouldn't I? And lastly (and perhaps the most unjustified) I can't help but think about the fact that Buell was started by an ex-Harley engineer. Harley isn't known for their modern engineering, so how can that be a good thing? I trust the Germans and Japanese to have better designs. That being said, the Triumph certainly falls prey to that mentality too...

I'm gonna keep an eye out. I love how the thread recently went from "buy a cheap starter bike" to "Aww shit, just finance the bike of your dreams!" Thanks VTP!

the styling is certainly not for everyone. i'm about 6' even and yes, it does feel a bit cramped. there are kits and mods available for rear set pegs, but at that point you're getting desperate.

Yeah, that Buell is an ugly fucking bike. Mind you, I rode a GS500, which was also far from appealing.

Buells are really well made... The dude left harley because they didn't like his innovative ideas. But... They are ugly and parts will be harder and harder to find.

Honda ftw.
